A Buddhist monk sits playing his flute beneath a solitary willow tree that has risen from a lake. Vivid purples and blues dominate the swirling sky, while the setting sun casts warm hues of orange and yellow, contrasting with the cool tones. The tree and monk are mirrored in the water as birds fly in the distance. This piece is a further exploration of the line, "The Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore" from Thich Nhat Hanh's translation of the Heart Sutra. This landscape is an original acrylic painting on a stretched canvas (the staple-free sides are painted). It has been varnished to protect the paint and preserve the lustrous colors.
